AHHhhhhhhhh, more folks with the same "delima" creeping up on them. Museums, like the LAME one that I was involved with (which became a "coffee clutch" with no archival experience and no younger member base to "carry the torch") is DEFINATELY NOT where Your collection should go (or MINE either). The only idea that I have come up with, based on the fact that over half of My slides I have not looked at since they were developed, was to try and donate them to Trains magazine. Now, there are other respected magazines, but which one has been around the longest? Which one is the most reputiable? Trains stands alone in it's class. My idea was to have them compensate Me for any usage (a retirement income that might buy Me a tank of gas or loaf of bread) and give Me a lifetime subscription until My passing. The slides would SURELY be in good hands, be protected, not be available to "roving fingers" and enjoyed by railfans around the world. Why did I take those photos in the first place? To just sit in boxs? No, to SHARE with others. I have not approached anyone yet from Trains but if this idea sounds acceptable to any of You, maybe They would consider it. After all, they are already accustomed to compensation for publication, so that is not an issue. And what is the price to them per issue to send one out every month as long as I live? Hardly anything. Let Me know Your thoughts.
