George, corporate history is not my strong point, but if I had to hazard a stab here,
I beleive that some of Shays patents ran out & Willamette was there to capitalize on
that. The obvious similarity was the 3 cylinder vertical engine and shafts running
along that side to each axle where a ring & pinion gear would transfer that motion
to the wheels.
Sorry, but I can't answer your question with any certanty.
