Premise 1: Transportation leaders say they won't be pushed around on rail line. . .
Premise 2: The Public (Voters) said use of prop 116 money requires passenger service of some sort.
Conclusion: Does this mean they are saying that they will not be bullied by the will of the people?
Wasn't it a famous railroad tycoon of a bygone era that once said "The Public Be Damned"? So I guess we have come around full circle. The era of the Neo-Robber Baron is upon us now!
If so, then we are done for this time. Back then, the Robber Baron was private, and could with enough effort by the gov't, be brought under control (Teddy Roosevelt style). But now, the Robber Baron IS the government - county/regional government in this case. If this sort of attitude by gov't officials is allowed to stand without firing them or dumping the politicians that appointed them, then the citizens will have lost control of their own government.
Who then will now come to the rescue and make things right? Nobody - certainly not by the power of a corrupt and lawless government, anyhow!
Something to think about. . . . .
