Although I don't often respond to anonymous posts, I will state that CWWR # 684 was purchased new in 1968, and used most often on the Curtis, Milburn, & Eastern RR., based in Pe Ell, WA. It was also used on the line to the log dump @ South Bay, WA. CM&E was another Weyerhauser RR that operated in Lewis County, Southwest of Chehalis, WA. Although the engine was lettered variously for Chehalis Western & CM&E, it rarely if ever made the trip to Tacoma Tideflats. Weyerhauser paid Milwaukee Road to haul its' logs to Tacoma for export, then Weyerhauser bought 4 new GP-38-2's for " long haul service ", from Chehalis to Tacoma, when the logging company expanded its' RR operations upon Milwaukee Road's withdrawl from the PNW in 1980. This info from the book: " Logging Railroads of Weyerhauser's Vail - McDonald Operation ", by Frank W. Teleski & Scott D. Barrett.
