I just saw about an old movie short on TCM regarding the cross-country travel of this Friendship Train full of food bound for Europe after WWII. TCM aired it tonite as a 'filler' between its full-length features. Apparently it was fashioned after the cross-country Liberty Train and the Freedom Train routes of the mid to late 40s. This Friendship Train originated in Hollywood and a news reporter (Drew Pearson) was its spokesperson. The train crossed the country picking up foods bound for France and Italy... and all along the U.S. routes there were crowds of people on the sidelines waving/wishing them well. The many train cars of foodstuffs arrived in NY City and were placed on ocean vessels for the overseas journey. The short film did not display many credits at the end of the movie... but apparently it was quite an event... I think it would make a great movie... or at least a great backdrop for a movie... wonder why no one has made one yet.
