The BL20-2 was one of EMD's failed attempts to provide an alternative to railroad in-house rebuilding programs of the era. The GP15-1 model fared much better in this area.

It has been a while, but IIRC - Only a handful of BL20-2 units were built (all on speculation) and might have had some kind of "different" arrangement instead of the typical EMD roots blower or turbocharger.
