When I lived in Philadelphia circa 1966-68, one of the highlights of 30th Street was the train status board, which was very elegantly hand written in chaulk. I noticed over time that it was not just one agent, but apparently a tradition or job requirement in which all or perhaps most of the clerks who worked the job learned the elegant style. It is one of the many things I wish I had taken pictures of, but of course I expected it to be there forever, since it was still the Standard Railroad of the World even if things were getting a bit shakey by then.
