This display technology is called a Solari Board. They use to
be widely used in airports. I would consider these an endangered
species! Each letter or number or other symbol is on a metal flap.
The system cycles through each flap until it gets to display the
desired letter. They make a curious and distinctive tick-tick-
tick-tick-tick sound while doing this. When the train at the
bottom of the list has departed, all the rows have to move down
one position, so this generates quite a flurry of activity.
