Robert W. "Bob" Downing dies at 96

I'm saddened to report that Bob Downing passed away Aug. 2 in Spokane, WA. Mr. Downing fell ill while attending the NPRHA annual convention in Spokane and had been slowly recovering in a Spokane hospital at the time of his death. (He lived in Spokane.) Mr. Downing retired in the mid-70's as CEO of BN, and was one of the principal planners of the 1970 BN merger while employed by the GN. [Railway Age][nptelltale-Yahoo Group].
