This is very sad news. Bob was a giant in the industry. He was a key player in some of the biggest developments in Western railroading in the 20th century, not the least of which was the BN merger. He had much to say about how the closing of the SP&S between Pasco and Fish Lake was not entirely for the reasons most of us had been told, and that BNSF to this day is regretting not having that piece of track still up and running. I know of only two railroad landmarks bearing his name, East Downing and West Downing, at the approach signals to BNSF's Hauser refueling facility in north Idaho. Are there any others?
