Unstoppable was filmed on the W&LE, WNYP,and Nittany & Bald Eagle RR's last fall. Fox leased a number of locos and freight cars from the CP and the W&LE. For the spectacular rollover and explosion scene, the Special Effects wizards built lightweight mockups from fiberglass and aluminum to look like EMD's. The crash props were powered by an engine taken from a tractor trailer truck and driven a stuntman who flipped them over at the right moment using with concealed rams. They were later packed with explosives and detonated on the following day, although it will all happen in seconds on the screen. There are spectator videos of the crash and explosion posted on YouTube. Search for "unstoppable movie 2010". The rollover and explosion were at Emporium, PA and the crash with a horse trailer was filmed near Port Allegany PA, both on the Western New York & Pennsylvania. Other action scenes were filmed at Tyrone, PA on the N&BE. I tried to get there for the crash scene, but was about a week late, however I did see some of the action at Tyrone and had a ball watching how Hollywood works. I think it will be a great flick.
