Caboose riding

Bruce, the two 315 trips out of Silverton were lightly patronized, with about 25 folks spread over the three coaches. On the mixed train the flagman, a UP engineer, and I had the caboose to ourselves for much of the trip. On some trips the caboose was sold seperately at a higher fare, and some of the trains had a lot more folks on board. Railfest is a mixed bag with a large variety of activities (which change from year to year), but with some planning, selectivity, and luck you can most likely have a lot of fun. The D&S puts a lot of planning into it, and does it well. The only negative is that with a lot of trains on the line, dispatching sometimes trumps photo ops, but that was not a huge problem.
