Re: UP standard cab C40-8s ruled in 1989

After cutting my young railfanning teeth on SP's assortment older power in the South Bay, it was an eye opener to see sets of these show up at UP's Milpitas yard. The yardmaster there was quite friendly, and volunteered to show my parents and I around the new units including the cab. It was like stepping foot into a spaceship compared to the SW1500/GP9/SD9 cabs I had had been in at that point. LCD screens instead of a broom wedged into the cab electrical cabinet? Progress. It's always a treat now to see one show up, however weather battered, trailing on a Donner freight.
