After the slide in the Cascade Range near Oakridge, OR a couple of winters ago, the Starlight was at first annulled, then was resumed as stub trains between LA and (I think)Klamath Falls, and southbound between Seattle and Eugene. No through service over the entire route. Thus, trains of fewer cars were required for the truncated service.
