Sorry, I'm one day late with this, but I thought it important enough to add here.

On Monday, November 11, 1963 Pickering Lbr. Corp. EMD 102 left the mill at Standard with about a dozen empty log flats and caboose 02. They got up to Soap Creek Pass at Mile 51 and the crew, including engineer Bill Scott and Conductor Garnet Dambacher, all had lunch. It was the end of the logging season and an official was asked if they'd be back here next year. He wasn't sure. Although Scott had his orders to return to Standard with some loads and empty oil car 603, he backed the entire train up through camp and then rolled forward, sounding the airhorn repeatedly. They never returned and a way of life passed from us. 47 years ago and I
still have a hard time accepting it as the Pickering remains my favorite.
Thanks to an old friend who passed this along to me a couple of years back.
