That "old friend" wouldn't be Don Hansen of San Francisco, would it? I know he was at Soap Creek that particular day. Soap Creek's demise had been decided about three months prior. The "farewell train" was operated Sept. 15, 1963 for about 300 employees and families riding in gondola cars with wooden benches for seating. Shay #33 powered the train with a diesel as mid-train helper. I can assure you that Bill Scott knew exactly what was going on, as he talked with Frank Momyer on a weekly basis. In fact, Bill had access to Mr. Momyer's office at all times.
