While looking for info on the flume / aqueduct, I found this remarkable image from Verdi, courtesy University of Nevada library.
Verdi Flume Company Trestle (Truckee Lumber Company). Looking north-east towards Dog Creek Canyon, Circa 1895. Note old Truckee River bridge in foreground and Doan Steam Wagon hauling lumber from Roberts and Lewis Mill in upper Smithneck Creek to Verdi. Photograph of a Doan Steam Wagon, manufactured by the Roberts and Doan Steam Wagon Company (California, ca. 1879-1889), pulling cars loaded with lumber; trestle in background.
