Back in the late 70's I wanted to get out there & shoot the train when it was down @ Gerlach. Somebody advised me to be there really early in the morning, so I chose June 21st, the longest day of the year and slept in the back of my Datsun pickup the nite before right at the wye. Sure enough, got awoken right before the sun came up by the train with the two gals on the locomotive and was able to get some hand held photos with my 6 by 7 of them taking the empties back to Empire, all this before the sun reared its head over the hills. Pacific News published one of them, so I considered the trek a success.
