ORHF Temporary Storage

The groups that make up the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation have begun using their property adjacent to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in Portland. The fenced-in storage track built there now holds the six-car consist used for this year's Holiday Express fundraising excursions.

The Foundation has also found secure storage elsewhere in the Portland area for the remaining rolling stock kept outside the Brooklyn Yard roundhouse. These cars and locomotives must be moved in January 2011 as part of the agreement with Union Pacific, which is redeveloping the roundhouse area.

Under the terms of the agreement, the groups must vacate the roundhouse by January 2012. The goal is to have a new restoration facility built at the OMSI site by then, which would be the new home of the city's three steam locomotives. The shop and interpretive center would also include the relocated turntable from Brooklyn Yard.
