Having lived for several years on the Peninsula starting in the late 1960's the SDP 45's (having just displaced the PA1's and E's and F's in passenger service were an exotic change from the familiar GP9's, H-24-66's, H-12-44's, DL721's and that lone SSW F7 in commute service. Later downgraded themselves to commute service their 6-axles and 3600 HP built for long-distance sprints seemed out of place on trains that might only go a mile or two between stops. Much later I spotted one in freight service traveling northward through Galt at dusk around 1990. My sense was that this was the end of an era - it turned out to be the last time I saw one.
