WAF you are basicaly right.
The Type C hot bearing scanner and type G dragger were frequently placed at the same location.
The Type C "Tote Board" Scanner had the numerical display board and were replaced with the installation of the type E and F "talkers"
The phrase "White Light on the Scanner" was standard on all scanners and related to the outside white standard light bulb on scanner shelter. When the light was out or flashing the crew was required to stop and walk their train as this indicated a defective detector. When the light was steady this was also a proceed indication. If the scanner was tripped or the maintainer was there with the door open the light would flash, causing the crew to stop and inspect their train.
