These figues that are quoted for shipping crushed rock and freight containers have to be complete wild guesses....For one thing where will be the market for the rock be when there are plenty of quarries to draw from right now..
And for 1000 containers being shipped out of the Port of Humbolt sounds more like a will dream when all the current Port of Calls can still handle a considerable amount more containers and you have have the possibility of the Port in Mexico on the horizon
As for shipping lumber, Simpson doesn't have rail connections any more, Pacific Lumber closed there plant in fortuna long ago and the plant south of Fortuna looks to be operating at about 50% and is still cutting back....All the small mills that shipped are long gone.....The plant at Arcata may still have rails into the plant, but they are a truck shipper now and the road bed to Arcata would have to be super up graded just to get what few cars the plant might ship...There might be a market for the rock, but this is a long way to ship it and rate making would have to be high to make a profit and finding a receiver to pay it...Good luck,,,
