Frenchprof couldn't be more correct about California's Appalachia. Glad to see everyone picked up this article as it is the most the Journal has written about the RR since "Going Nowhere" back in 2003. Another article of interest but a little bit off the reality page is to be found in the Spring 2007 issue of "The Eel River Reporter" titled "The Railroad Dilemma: The Island Mountain Quarry Connection." The article's author, Nadananda (try saying that five times in a row) still doesn't know SP's demise was more than a dozen years past. Friends of the Eel who put out this magazine format newsletter have money and attorneys and do not want to see anthing industrial back in the the Eel River Canyon.
