You are so right, Erik. Now that I've started building my layout I am thankful for all the hoarding I did in the last 20 years. No more blue box Athearn, no more dummy units; hell even flex track is $6 bucks a pop nowadays. Sure the quality is improved, but the average RTR boxcar is approaching $ 30 apiece. If I want full brake rigging & underbody detail I'll put it on myself. Today's model railroaders aren't so much modelers as they are box - openers.
