I also remember spending the day in Truckee, when what I thought was a very late #5 showed up. It stopped at the east end of the yard, and I could hear on the scanner that they had problems with an HEP cable. After a short delay, they were on their way and the conductor told the head end to watch the expression on the people's faces waiting on the depot platform. They blew out of town right by them - and there were some strange looks on the platform. Right behind them was the real #5 that did stop. It must have been a Sunday afternoon, because I figured out the first train was a Reno Fun Train headed home.
