I received an email from Steve on Monday morning telling me about the article and explaining that the reporter had made a number of errors in the printed article. Steve stated that the errors including the 1983 date were incorrect and not reported by him.
The SNCT operated the line from 1980 until 1984 when they went out of business, due to being bankrupt. The Milwaukee Road had leased the line to the SNCT, thus they had to go through the bankruptcy proceeding to get their property back.
The Port Townsend and Southern had actually surveyed as far south as Brinnon, WA and had property leases and options. Mount Walker is erroneously reported as being a stumbling block on the march to Portland, the real reason was lack of money.
