The HBB story was related to me by someone who worked in the GOB and got it through the office "newsline", which is of course subject to the telephone game. The DTW story about SW9-Shed10 and NEVER is one where I specifically asked him about it in person during a recess in a meeting with the FRA. At the time, about 10 years ago, he was district engineer for the UP in RSV. Since then, I understand he's moved a few rungs up the ladder. As he's in the position to wield great, if not final, influence over the decision of whether to do so or not, that's about as close to the horse's mouth as you can get. There was a plan afoot last year or the year before involving the State of Calif to pay for another track between Swanston and Antelope and/or Sw9-Shed 10, but negotiations fell through because the UP didn't want to be contracturally obligated to run more passenger trains on the mountain, "or so the story goes". And I'm not "quoting" sources on these discussion boards.
All I can say at this point is that you need to go to UC Berkeley and take Bonehead English; the Golden Gate diploma mill the SP liked doesn't count. You come across as a self-important Train Nut Management Flunky. Have you ever tried chill pills?
