This past Saturday, BNSF had a sideswipe derailment along the Chambers Bay Golf course in University Place (south of Tacoma, WA). Yeah I know it's old news, but I thought some might like to see photos.

The derailment involved the southbound EVEROO on Main 2 (inland) and the northbound LYDVBT. The northbound train suffered the most damage with 9 cars on the ground, 3 of which were tank cars loaded with sodium hydroxide. One of the tankers leaked a small quantity of the lye, 25-50 gallons.

Main 2 was open to traffic Sunday afternoon and I think Main 1 was open on Monday evening.

Still haven't heard the cause yet, but I'd guess a bad axle or wheel that hit the grade crossing just north of the pedestrian bridge. The grade crossing was bereft of it's timbers and the track was damaged from there north.
