Train horns seem to make little or no difference if people already ain't paying attention.

As it is now, engineers can blow their horns 'till they fall off the roof, and still people will push their strollers across the tracks right in front of 'em. Happened just that way a couple three years ago in Northern California.

College kids at Chico State with earbuds blasting away into their ears, still remain oblivious to the frantic blast of the train horn just before they get hit. Happens almost routinely. The coroner should open a branch office next to the campus!

What I don't get is why people that wouldn't dream of playing on the freeway, or even in the middle of a medium speed boulevard, think nothing of playing in the middle of a high speed track. Or even walking down the middle with their back to the traffic. Then they overload their ears with loud "music" to the point of causing permanent damage, and still expect to hear a train !?!? Even the loudest train horn ain't that loud.

You would think that anyone even semi-qualified for college, would have something more than mush between their ears. . . . But I guess not!
