On the other hand, there are some conductors who have given at least as good as they got. And some police officers really light up when handed a miscreant who's "not from around here," and don't necessarily go in for the full due process of law. I recall a problem passenger who was handed over to the police in Bakersfield (must have been a slow day--six officers responded); apparently, as far as it went was a trip to the nearest alley for a little "talk."
