She probably should have gone to the Smithsonian! All the stories I've heard from NP guys in the area, seem to point to a combination of things. The NP wanted to be rid of the whole look of being "old fashioned" and set a very short deadline for raising roughly $5000 cash to cover the scrap value.

She was a great prospect for preservation as she had been pretty well gone through at the shops recently. All we have are the memories. I have numerous photos of her, as well as the 10" 33rpm record by Elwin Purington. There's a very short bit of Video on one of the tapes I have, I think from Greg Scholl.
