A friend of mine, Jed Hughes (who lives in Southern California), was on yesterday's #11 (23rd out of Sacramento) and he almost missed the train out of there but that is a separate story.
In three cell phone calls with him this afternoon, he told me that they had to wait at Lathrop for a UP crew (pilot) over an hour; five miles north of Bakersfield, the crew "died" amd they had to wait some 45 minutes for the Amtrak crew that normally would take #11 from San Luis Obispo to LA.
Now here is the interesting part. The STARLIGHT got into LAUPT (Union Station) at 1:12 a.m.
My friend lives in Long Beach and he was STUCK at the station until the first METRO Red Line Train left at 4:30 a.m. He took that to 7th/Metro (7th and Figueroa or 7th/Flower) to connect to the Blue Line which operates to Long Beach; he had to wait 25 minutes for the first Blue Line train at 5 a.m.
He was "beat" when he got to Long Beach at about 6 a.m.
FYI.
