I'm chuckling a bit as I type this, but I never thought I'd see a thread in this forum on my second favorite subject: Alternative energy and Nikola Tesla. It seems that Ayn Rand may have been well versed in some of the concepts of Tesla. I have heard a rumor that Tesla Motors in CA (wonder why they chose that name?) has been looking at the idea of using extremely high value capacitors instead of batteries for electric cars. One of the interesting characteristics of caps is that they can be theoretically charged virtually instantly (even the really big value ones) by what could be described as a "static" (vacuum) charge. Imagine driving your electric vehicle into a charging station and only taking milliseconds to "fill 'er up". Or maybe even charging on the fly. Now imagine that vehicle being able to be quickly loaded transversely on a rail car that is a section of an HSR coast-to-coaster and leaving LA at 3:00pm and arriving in NYC at 9:00am with a fully charged vehicle. I don't know about you, but I like it.
