I was in Watsonville this morning talking with the Fire Chief and a long time employee of the Apple Growers Ice & Cold Storage facility. What a mess and a huge financial loss. I learned the purpose of the two-track spur was for the Apple Growers Ice & Cold Storage facility to provide ice to Southern Pacific for their refrigeration cars starting in the late 1920’s. I imagine this service ended a long time ago.
