I wouldn't be surprised if Sound Transit opens the Lakewood Extension close to the scheduled date in 2012. Most of the track renewal & station work was completed a year or more ago, along with new grade crossing controls. The last major piece of work, the overpass @ the intersection of Pacific Ave & South Tacoma Way / E. 26th St, has finally begun its' construction phase after several years of appeasing local businesses & property owners. Sound Transit was part of the problem here, IMHO, due to many self - imposed changes in the overhead structure & its' approaches to try and please all parties.
