Stein's Hill 5/14

No, no pictures - just a story.

I was at Stein's Hill last Saturday. I found some wild flowers there. (Morning glories, maybe? They were pretty nice, about two inches across.) I picked three of them. Two I placed at the two crosses at the foot of the hill (for the two who died in the 1995 runaway). The last one I took to the top of the hill, and laid it there for Richard Steinheimer.

Stein's article "Cajon Pass Revisited" in Trains Magazine was the first time I'd really heard of Cajon. That article is the one I have re-read the most times of anything Trains ever published; I nearly destroyed that issue by reading it so many times. Within a year we made our own trip to Cajon, and another the next year.
