The vertical members are being reused but strengthened, with solid plates replacing some of the zigzag bracing. There has been repair to the footings.
The horizontal members will be new and are bolted instead of riveted, but roundheaded bolts are being used so that it looks like rivets. The attempt is to make the new structure look just like the old, while meeting modern engineering standards. My understanding is that it will still not be rated for double heading of K-36 and K-37 engines. The old structure was inadequate for even single K-36 and K-37 engines by modern standards, yet double heading did occasionally happen, especially in snow service. See
