The Amtrak Station Manager in Portland tells me that alternate train service, using Amfleet consists, is supposed to begin Aug. 6 (Monday). Coast Starlight #14 brought 10 cars (seven coach, three cafe) into Seattle from L.A., and Empire Builder #7 brought another group in from Chicago (off Capitol Limited #29 from D.C.).

He says there are enough cars to initially cover three of the four round trips south of Seattle (500, 504/506, 508, 501, 507, 509). Each will have its schedule increased by 30 minutes to account for the conventional equipment. He added that they expect to bring in more cars later in the week to cover 513 and 516, the through runs between Bellingham and Portland.

The Seattle-Vanouver RT (510/517) was not affected by the TALGO problems because it's currently running with a short Superliner set while one TALGO set is at CEECO for repairs and overhaul.
