I'm not sure that it was a modified version of the SP 6 chime, which was their own casting. If you look at an SP 6 chime, embossed on one of the steps is LB and 9229 on another. 9229 is the casting number and perhaps LB stands for long bell, but I'm not certain. I also was told once that LB stood for the name of the foundry ( xxxxx Brass)...be nice to know for certain. I've had mine for almost 40 years and it came off of a locomotive that I rode as a kid. IMO, the 6 chime was more used than the shorter 5 chime, AKA desert chime.
