Drew is right on in his history of the Delta Queen. At least we can be thankful that she has stayed here in the U.S. She is every bit as historic as any of the steam locomotives we treasure so much. I hope to one day take a trip (excursion?) on the Delta Queen.
I, too, love the opportunity to correct some of these guides who think they know it all and do not have their historical facts straight. The good ones appreciate the input. The ones with big egos just wish you would go away!
I once got into an argument with a rivet counter railfan as to whether a certain steam locomotive burned coal or oil. The argument was settled when I produced a recent picture of the loco taken from a bridge over the tracks. The coal in the tender was clearly visible.
