A rail acquisition commemoration event is planned for Fall 2011. The following is from the SCCRTC Website:
Following a decade of property analysis and negotiations with Union Pacific (UP), the Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line will finally be owned by the community (via the RTC)! Five communities along the line are planning commemoration events including Watsonville, Aptos, Capitola, Live Oak and Santa Cruz. Each event will have their own local flavor and feature a whistle stop of the train. The RTC and operator Sierra Northern hope to provide free train rides from the last stop on the west side of Santa Cruz along the scenic coastline to Wilder Ranch State Park and back.
The free scenic train rides will originate and terminate from the location where I took this photo two days ago.
And return from the location I took this picture last week.
I noticed SERA 50 on the beer spur with a tank car. I wonder if Budweiser will be going into the tank car to provide refreshments at the whistle stops.
