Old Lionel model train stuff---cleaning out garage

We have several boxes of Lionel train stuff from the "40's/50"s, track, cars, etc. Some of it is in poor condition because of staged collisions by the nephews etc. But before we toss it into the dumpster, we'd like someone to look at it and take what might be valuable or salvageable (we have no interest in selling it or getting any money for it)---or would a hobby shop like The Train Shop in Santa Clara be interested in taking it? Some guidance here would be helpful. One never knows if there is a "pearl" in the pigsty. Thanks in advance for any guidance.
