That was the problem---they tried to cover too much distance with a very slow machine. I am guessing but probably no more than 8 mph. It seems to me, the use of the Polson engine would have been more appropriate, using the Willamette from Elbe to Mineral. The Polson engine was under steam that day but never used.

It was the same day as the night photo session and I am not sure they got back to Tacoma in time for that. It was close for us and we were driving.
