Sir Trackwalker:
"Warren Wing" lives in an Assisted Living Center in Salem, Oregon. He is approximately 93 years old. He is bedridden and it appears that Alzheimer's is what is ailing him now amongst many other medical problems. It is very sad indeed! Warren was one of the foremost railfans of the Pacific Northwest for well over 60+ years. His photo and slide collections were tops !
His son Mike died many, many years ago. His other son Dana lives in Salem, OR too-- about a block from his sister Gail. Gail is very ill in her own right as well and needs constant care.

Warren lived in his beloved home on 42nd Avenue in Tukwila, WA (Seattle) along the banks of the Duwamish River. His basement was also his Darkrookm location where he turned out so many wonderful historical creations of both railroad and marine operations.

He was employed by the United States Postal Service for many, many years and knew every street in Seattle and West Seattle and adjoining areas like the back of his hand. He was an original Founding member of the "Northwest Trolley Railfan Group", the word "Trolley" was eventually dropped and the name changed to the "Northwest Railfan Group" (NWRG).
We meet monthly, except Summers, in Lecture Hall 1141 at the North Seattle Community College near 92nd Avenue.

A lot of Warren's photos and negatives were purchased by collector "Walt Ainsworth" who currently lives in Port Orchard, WA after moving from Beaverton, OR where he lived for many years.
Regarding Warren's book on the "Pacific Coast Railway" :
His beloved wife Pat used to type all his manuscripts for him as her contribution to the hobby, and as poster "Jim" has previously mentioned.
When Pat died, Warren didn't know where to turn. They were married for a very long time and went together on various trips even into their Senior years. He still misses her terribly to this very day, and has her ashes in a container, with him. Very heartbreaking and sad !

If a manuscript for the "Pacific Coast Railway" exists, it appears to be lost to all time.
More recently, Warren's close friend "Kurt Armbruster", author of the "Orphan Road", told some of us that "HE" had written a PC Ry manuscript. But I've never seen it..

Warren had a lot of collections, such as all the photos and negatives and movies from the late PNW rail photographer "Harold Hill".. Harold's widow Irene gave Warren over 13,000 slides too.
This is only a sampling. Where any of this stuff is today is anyone's guess.

Guys (and gals) here on A-P : "PLEASE" keep Warren Wing in your prayers. Let us hope that when his time comes, he will go peacefully! And also, try not to let this happen to you in your personal affairs.. Make plans NOW on where yhou'd like your collectibles to end up..

Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to give you additional information on Warren.

Best regards,
Ken Shattock (KRK)
