What is really questionable is the county's sanity. As much as I would hate to see the branch scrapped, the county's purchase of the line is just about the dumbest civic action I've seen in years. And THAT is saying a lot. Even as a long shot, using the money as an incentive to get the Davenport cement plant open again would make more sense than buying a railroad to nowhere. It will end up as one of the more expensive hiking trails in CA.
