If this is the same UTU that represents transit works (Bus Drivers) they have a history of rolling over and not fighting. What they accepted is in line with that industry, not the RR industry. I know many drivers, that are about to decertify their unions for not representing the membership in the latest round of contracts and giving up medical coverage.
Many in AC Transits membership are actually looking to move to a different bargaining unit due to the last round of contract negotiations as the UTU leadership gave up $6k per driver per year on medical so they could get a 2-4% raise over the same 3 years.
