All three RDC's are sitting in Elgin, Oregon and are reported for sale at $150,000. The last fishing train ran in early 2010 using an RDC, and one later ran for rafting that year, and one/more were used unpowered one the Santa Trains that year?
The two RDC-1s were fairly reliable. the xGN RDC3 has issues with both drive control electronics (no spare electronic parts). All three cars were rebuilt by BCR in the 80s and are now single end cab controls. Maintenance requirements and reliability issues were their undoing on both Lewis & CLark and Wallowa Union. It is easier to maintain and operate an EMD and a John Deere HEP compared to three engines (two drive and one APU/HEP) per RDC.
