That actually would make more sense, as there wouldn't be any need to back onto or off of the Cotton Rock like there is at Dalhart if the old C&S/FW&D route is used, plus there's no need to coordinate anything with BNSF. However, the UP Steam schedule page does make clear that Colorado Springs is one of the stops, so BNSF trackage will be part of the southbound route, at least. I suspect they'll actually use BNSF's Pueblo and Boise City subs to Stratford, TX, since the junction there allows trains from the Boise City sub to head directly onto the Cotton Rock.
