I also heard even lately that UP is interested in "cross-border shopping". They were going to purchase the Huntingdon-Mt. Vernon line from BNSF from the merger agreement, and interchange with CP at the border. This would have forced the Mt. Vernon-Seattle portion to carry both roads. Even the Washington Corporation was interested in that section from what I understand, but not as interested as UP was.

A lot of proposals never get realized, but it's interesting to imagine "what if......".
