We lived in Benicia 91-98 and used the 680 bridge a lot. My two girls, since grown and on their own, used to laugh that the Toll Booth guys had the most boring job on earth. I'd bet that they'd consider the RR bridgetender right there in the running for that title. Sound like a good job for people like caboverbob or me who now relish a pressure free life...
